Thank You for a Successful 52nd Annual Conference
Colette Phipps, SSA President, opened up the 52nd Annual Conference on Monday morning October 6, 2025, discussing the Conference’s central theme of “Advocating for a Dynamic Age-Inclusive Society.” The two day event saw over 60 presenters addressing key issues in aging. Presenters brought innovative ideas and solutions to the field of aging. On Monday, Dr. Maria Torroella Carney, a board-certified internist, geriatrician, and palliative care physician at Northwell presented on geriatrics and palliative care. In addition, SSA recognized the accomplishments of James O’Neal who passed away this past spring.
SSA honored individuals in the field of aging with the following awards: Eunice Flemister (James O’Neal president Award), christian gonzález-rivera (Walter Beatie Jr. Award) and Becky Preve (Advocate for Older Adults Award). In addition, we will recognize our 2 student award winners: Nicholas S. Koufacos and Adam Neufeld
The SSA Town Hall met to address policies related to aging and older adults.  Bob Blancato, Elder Justice Coalition, and Greg Olsen, Acting Director, New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA), served as panelists, bringing vast experience and providing thoughtful insights to the audience. In addition, Paula Span, NY Times Journalist, Author of the New Old Age column was in conversation with christian gonzález-rivera about the current issues facing older adults today. 
Center for an Urban Future Report
The Center for an Urban Future released an important report in 2025, The Emerging Financial Security Crisis Facing Older Adults in NYS."
Calvary Hospital Compatior Award
Dr. Mary Beth Morrisey, Associate Professor and the Director of the PhD Program at Yeshiva University received the Calvary Hospital Compatior Award, conferred November 20, 2024, Plaza Hotel, New York, N.Y. This video highlights her work.
